For freedom
According to a gay Help statistics last year, reported on The Republic of 16/05/2020, 27% of teenagers would not want to share the school desk with a homosexual partner. Thinking about’Homophobia, tendentially, young people are excluded, relegating them to a retrograde and vaguely bigoted thought that persists only from a certain age upwards. It seems that this is not the case, or at least not entirely.
L’Gay Help investigation shows that the youthful trend on discrimination, more or less violent, is definitely too high. All this worries more if we consider that the victims of homophobia, bifia and transphobia in Italy were 187 between 2018 and 2019 and 134 l’next year. To these data, the minor discrimination, the insults and so on must be added.
In the last few days, the question has been particularly animated because of the vicissitudes of the famous DDL Zan and the position of the singer Fedez on the stage of May 1st. Whether or not the methods and tones used by the’Artist, it is clear that, between statistics and tendencies, the debate is very accepted. In short: a spectrum is around the’Italy, the spectrum of the fight against the’homophobia. And thank goodness.
Leaving the numbers, fundamental when fighting against certain discrimination, l’object of the discussion is the thought, l'Andtica of the single. Because in itself, homophobia would mean irrational fear towards a homosexual individual, but episodes of violence and discrimination have little to do with the sphere of fear. On the contrary, it is a real hostility towards a real, tangible, and above all extremely private fact. Discriminate, attack or even just deny the possibility of affection, love or sexuality between two people of the same sex (or genre) implies entering a field that does not concern us. The same conviction of being able to judge the sexuality of’Other is synonymous with moral presumption, like an ethical judge who with his long index establishes the right and wrong. That it is irrational as a trend, therefore, not c’It is doubtful, but let's not confuse it with fear: it is hate, anger. And therefore of violence.
The battle against the’Homophobia, for some years, has intensified, first elsewhere and now also by us. Today it is one of those days when we are most discussed, articles are written, one sides; Because May 17 is the World Day against the’homophobia, bifobia and transphobia.
Generally, days like this generate controversy, opposite and the like. On the one side c’It is those who counterfeiting, rhetorically, because it does not exist, for example, a counterparty: in short, because there is no world day against the’heterophobia? (Controversy similar to what he would like L’Establishment of the Feast of’man). They are usually the ones who do not declare themselves against the’homosexuality in itself, but they are not willing to grant her the right to the family, and to which the hair is dripping with pride.
Superfluous, we believe, discuss the absurdity of these objections. From’Other, c’it's a’exaggeration of the sense of justice, which would like the fight against the’homophobia fought every day, that women's day was all the’year etc. Sacrosanto, but the focus of the problem would be lost: homotransfobic violence (or gender).
Establishing world days, in cases like these, is not a formality, nor a’opportunity to celebrate diversity (what diversity, then?); Rather, it means a position, a cry that denounces in the light of the sun the daily harassment that the non -heterosexual population suffers daily, prejudices, stigmatizations, and also carnival carvings of’homosexual, especially if male (is well present in’collective imagination l’Effective and supermote man who should embody every gay one).
L’Homophobia, in Italy as in most of the world, is a model so rooted that it can be eradicated only with a fight in a loud voice, only with laws that limit the attacks, only striking and shameless gestures. The world day, in this sense, as well as the parade of Gay Pride, are not only right, but inevitable in the process of change that, we must tell it with a pinch of pride, is happening. Day after day, it would seem that one more step more towards the achievement of the equality of rights: not because there are less violence or there are no more discrimination, but because finally we talk about it properly, because we write laws, so that you take a position on a live national stage. Today more than ever, precisely on the basis of the fact that our voice comes to a general public, we must resist and fight. It is necessary, because it is not about ideology, or politics, but of mere justice.
